REAL YOU ELECTROLYSIS WORKERS UNITED
IWW IU 610 - ON STRIKE!
We are a union recognized and endorsed by the IWW as representing the electrolysis clinicians at the Vancouver, WA office of Real You Electrolysis, located at 907 Harney St, Vancouver, WA.
WHY WE'RE STRIKING
On May 20th, 2026, we served the management of Real You Electrolysis a petition for voluntary recognition of our union, signed by 11 of the 15 non-management electrologists employed as of May 14th--the day we voted to unionize. In response to receiving our petition, management terminated our lead organizer. The remaining union members then notified management of our intention to walk out in formal protest, staggered to allow every clinician to finish their active treatment sessions as scheduled and complete all required post-treatment activities.Management then demanded the return of our office keys and notified us that all workers participating in the walkout were no longer welcome on the premises, thereby terminating our employment. We complied with their lawful demand to return company property (our keys) and continued with our walkout, clarifying that we were not resigning, but rather engaging in a protected union organizing action. We have been on strike ever since, in protest of this unlawful retaliatory termination against our protected efforts to organize a union.
OUR DEMANDS
We have agreed to cease our strike and return to work if management agrees to the following demands:
Immediately reinstate all members of Real You Electrolysis Workers United
Back pay for all reinstated members
Clean disciplinary records for all reinstated members
Voluntary recognition of RYEWU by management
Immediate commencement of good-faith bargaining for a fair labor contract
CURRENT STATUS
As of June 9th, 2026, we had our first NLRB hearing, limited in scope to whether the union should consist only of electrologists from RYE's Vancouver location, or should include those at the Lakewood location, too. We are still awaiting the ruling. We are finishing up the documentation that the NLRB requires for our unfair labor practice charge against our employer before the June 10th deadline, but do not have a hearing date scheduled yet.The ownership and management of RYE has indicated that they will not be voluntarily resolving this situation, and will likely be contesting and appealing any decision that doesn't go their way. We intend to keep up our picket until the courts definitively resolve matters, AND RYE's owners have complied with any court-ordered remedy. This means we are looking at potentially MONTHS of keeping up our picket, and it's only going to get harder on us physically, emotionally, and financially.Thankfully, donations to our strike support fundraiser have surpassed $12.5k as of today, which is INCREDIBLE! The generosity of our supporters continues to be a literal and metaphorical lifeline for us all.
TO PATIENTS of Real You Electrolysis
At this time we are not encouraging a boycott of Real You Electrolysis, nor are we inhibiting access to the premises. The few clinicians who have not yet elected to join union continue to provide care. The members of RYEWU give our full unequivocal blessing to patients choosing to continue to received care at Real You Electrolysis. For those who have chosen to cancel their treatments at Real You Electrolysis and are seeking care elsewhere, we would be happy to share the names of other electrologists who have reached out in support of our strike. We are not endorsing these providers, nor making referrals to them, simply offering their information. Please contact us via the email link above.
